If you’re setting up your Internet Bridge for the first time and you’re having trouble connecting it to the internet, there may be a problem with the Internet Bridge’s connection to your router.
Below are some troubleshooting suggestions for specific types of routers (BT, Sky Q Hub, and Virgin Media), as well as advice for when to try using devices like network switches, Wi-Fi adapters, or a different router.
When to use a network switch to connect your Internet Bridge
Some high speed routers/modems (e.g. certain Salt Fiber Boxes) no longer support 10Mbit/s half duplex Ethernet speeds, which is the speed at which the tado° Internet Bridge works. For that reason, you may find the Internet Bridge doesn’t connect to your router/modem anymore.
You can confirm your router’s supported signal speeds by checking your router’s technical specifications or by contacting the technical support of your router manufacturer. In some cases, router support may be able to switch one of the ethernet slots to the slower speed of 10/100 Mbit/s.
Alternatively, you can buy a 100/10 Mbit/s network switch to fix this. You can set it up by connecting two Ethernet cables as follows:
Plug one end of one of the Ethernet cables into a port on your router/modem.
Plug the other end into any port on your switch.
Plug another Ethernet cable into another port on your switch.
Plug the other end into the Internet Bridge.
What can I do if my Internet Bridge has issues connecting through my BT Hub router?
If you are a BT broadband user and you are experiencing connection issues between your Internet Bridge and BT Hub router, these might be caused by the Smart Setup settings of your BT Hub 4, BT Hub 5, or Smart Hub.
Visit the official BT Hub Help Page for instructions on deactivating Smart Setup.
What can I do if my Internet Bridge has issues connecting through my Sky Q Hub router?
The Sky Q Hub usually comes with two devices:
the Sky Q router
the Sky Q Mini Box (which is mostly connected to your television)
If the Internet Bridge isn’t connecting to the internet via the Sky Q router, the Cloud LED will blink for more than 10 minutes.
To fix this, you’ll need to do the following:
Connect the Internet Bridge to the Ethernet port of the Sky Q Mini Box.
In a few minutes, the Cloud LED on the Internet Bridge should become solid. You’ll need to leave the Internet Bridge connected to the Sky Q Mini Box to ensure continued connection.
If the Cloud LED keeps blinking, restart the Internet Bridge and the Sky Q Mini Box.
What can I do if my Internet Bridge has issues connecting through my Virgin Media router?
The Virgin Media Hub 5 router model is a Gigabit speed router that does not support half-duplex operations. You can connect your Internet Bridge to the internet in one of the following ways:
Use a network switch (as explained in the section below) to connect your Internet Bridge to your router.
Use a Wi-Fi adapter.
Try temporarily connecting the Internet Bridge to a router of a different model that can maintain a 10/100mb network connection. If the connection is stable, then the connection issue is from the original router rather than the specific Internet Bridge.
