In some heating systems, the different zones are each controlled by a room thermostat. Each thermostat measures the temperature and opens or closes the zone valve to regulate the temperature in that zone.

Wired Smart Thermostats can be used to replace the room thermostats, allowing tado° to control the zones individually.

These heating systems can be controlled with one of the following setups:

1. Wired Smart Thermostats control radiator zones independently

Wired Smart Thermostats control the zone valves based on the measured room temperature.

The temperature in individual rooms is controlled by changing the settings on the conventional radiator thermostats.

You’ll need the following tado° devices:

  • 1x Starter Kit - Wired Smart Thermostat (includes Smart Thermostat and the Internet Bridge),

  • 1x Add-on - Wired Smart Thermostat

2. Wired Smart Thermostats control zone valves and Smart Radiator Thermostats are installed in the rooms (recommended)

The Wired Smart Thermostats control the zone valves based on the heat demand of any room in that zone.

The tado° devices in each zone communicate with each other. The Smart Thermostat opens the zone valve when any room with a Smart Radiator Thermostat in that same zone needs heating. Even if the temperature in the room with the Smart Thermostat is already reached. For this setup, it is important to ensure that the correct zone controller is selected for the rooms with Smart Radiator Thermostats.

You’ll need the following tado° devices:

  • 1x Starter Kit - Wired Smart Thermostat (includes Smart Thermostat and the Internet Bridge),

  • 1x Add-on - Wired Smart Thermostat, as well as

  • Add-on - Smart Radiator Thermostats for each room.
