If your heating system has never worked correctly, and you’re having issues with your heating and/or hot water being always on or always off, consult our article My boiler shows an error code while installing tado°. What can I do? instead.

If your heating system is no longer working as expected, and you’re now having issues where your heating and/or hot water are stuck in an “always on” or “always off” state, the cause could be related to either your tado° device or an external factor affecting your system.

Here’s how you can resolve this issue:

  1. Perform a test to exclude tado° from your heating setup

To find out where the problem lies, you need to temporarily rewire your tado° device. This will exclude tado° from your heating system and help isolate the cause.

  • If you don’t feel comfortable doing the test yourself, please contact an electrician or installer to assist you.

  • Before making any changes to your system, take detailed photos of the current wiring, with the cables still attached and the terminal numbers legible. You’ll need these photos to restore your original setup after the test.

2. Rewiring the tado° device

To rewire tado°, follow the appropriate guide (only available in English) for your specific tado° device to temporarily bypass it from your heating system:

3. Check the results

a. If your system still doesn’t work after completing the rewiring, the problem lies with your heating system and not the tado° device. You’ll need to contact a heating engineer to check your system.

b. If your heating system starts working again after excluding tadoº, the issue is likely with the tado° device. Please contact us via the tado° chatbot to let us know. Select the round orange icon in the bottom right-hand corner to open a chat. In the meantime, keep the wiring as it is, so the tado° device stays excluded from your system’s wiring. This will let you control your boiler manually while we work on finding a solution.
