How can I uninstall my tado° Wired Smart Thermostat and replace it with a tado° Smart Thermostat X?

Written by tado°

If you would like to replace a tado° Smart Thermostat (from the tado° V3+ or earlier product lines) with a tado° Smart Thermostat X and you would like to install it yourself, you can download one of the following PDF instructions.

Please choose the set of instructions for your type of setup:

  1. Wired thermostats that communicate with a boiler via Relay connections (on/off switches).

  2. Wired thermostats that communicate with a boiler via the common digital connection method, Opentherm.

If your thermostat uses a digital connection method other than Opentherm, we recommend contacting a professional installer. The tado° Smart Thermostat X can still be wired via relay connection, but this is a more complex installation and will involve rewiring your heating system.

If your thermostat does not have Opentherm or relay capabilities, then we recommend keeping your current setup and expanding it with our V3+ line, which we will continue to sell and support.

Installation Instructions

Remember to always turn off the mains power before touching any of the wires in your heating system.

If you are unsure whether your system uses relay, Opentherm, or a different type of connection, you can remove the front of your Smart Thermostat from the backplate on the wall, and check what the current wiring looks like.

For relay connections, the cables are connected to tado° wiring terminals marked COM and NO.

For digital connections (including Opentherm), the cables are connected to the tado° wiring terminals marked + and -.
